Winter is a season of rest, reflection and time at home with loved ones. To welcome the new year I discard, pass on or donate any clutter or unused objects in the house. It’s a reminder to keep life simple.

The weather has been warm and the lake is not frozen. The ice fishers turned away, disappointed that they could not set up camp out on the ice. No skating, no fishing.

The fog was thick this morning and at 6am the sky is still dark. Time to catch up on reading. Just like the animals burrowed into the hill, I am happily cocooned in my chair with a new book. Feeling grateful to be here and have the time to rest and recharge.

It is a time to set new goals. To look inward. Winter is a time to pause, review and plan. Winter is a season to rest.

There is no rush. There is quiet. The earth is at rest. May this new year bring us peace.
