There has been a lot of talk around me about religion. People have been vocal about their thoughts on religon. I don’t usually share my belief’s, but for some reason, many people have been questioning me on my spirituality lately.
A lot of people have been asking me “what are you”?When I say spiritual, they dismiss me as if my beliefs are not valid. This has mainly been from people who are Catholic.
I mainly use the word Creator but have no objection to people using God, Allah or Buddha. It puzzles me when I am questioned on my beliefs or when people joke about them.
There are many Christians who I follow on social media because of the uplifting messages they send out. That doesn’t mean that I am a Christian. That doesn’t mean I would demand that they change how they worship.
There is beauty in spirituality. I like to read the Talmud and quotes from the Quran. I can relate to Buddhist beliefs. I have read many Buddhist texts. I love the inspiration found in these texts. But I am spiritual, I do not belong to a organized religion. I am not changing my belief by respecting other religion’s and learning about them.
Each morning I wake up early to pray and show gratitude for the new day. I am not a witch or a pagan. I am a spiritual person. My beliefs are deeply ingrained. Please respect them.
If your religon condones the mocking of a person’s spiritual beliefs, you should question your religion and not the authenticy of my connection to creator. We need unity more then ever. Let’s learn from each other, respect others and love each other. We are one people. Different beliefs don’t separate us, lack of acceptance does. Carolyn Nones Vazquez
